In the recent weeks, there has been great disagreement regarding the minimum basic wage in South Africa. It was confirmed today that the Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa has signed the minimum wage agreement
The agreement is said to have set the minimum wage at R20 per hour which will take effect in May 2018. Many Unions which include the National Union of Metalworkers (NUMSA) has disagreed with this agreed amount and regards it as cheap labour.
What is your take on the R20 per hour minimum wage fee, do you regard it as fair in a country with constant inflation? Can an individual properly provide for themselves with such a basic salary?
