Music has always proven to be a powerful source of influence since the beginning of time . It has shaped the way people speak ,the way people dress and even how they conduct themselves . The power of this influence derives from the words in the music and the message contained within it.
Nowadays we see music moving in a much different direction , where many artists opt to make chart bangers , which have good beats , catchy hooks with sing along verses and contain little to no message for music lovers to embrace
We’ve seen our very own South African artists such as Cassper Nyovest follow this trend , even international artists such as Lil Uzi Vert , Lil Wayne , Travis Scott and 2 Chains just to name a few.
Even though the lyrics of music nowadays is shallow , where you find artists making reference mostly to , “bottle popping” , “booty shaking” , “Money spending” and “sex” , we still find majority of people enjoying and requesting such music.
Who is to blame? Do we blame the artists who release such music ? Or do we blame the consumer for embracing such music therefore increasing the demand for it?
